Pentecost

Pentecost is the season for celebrating the coming of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2), empowering and gifting the church for its mission in the world. The color of Pentecost is red, for it recalls the tongues of fire in which the Holy Spirit descended. Red is the color of the Church and is displayed on this day as a celebration of our hope that God is at work in and through us. During this season, we focus on the work of the church, and renew our individual and collective missional commitment to God’s call.
The symbols of Pentecost:
- Flames of Fire: symbol of the Holy Spirit coming to the first Christians
- Dove: the most common symbol of the Holy Spirit, taken from the account of Jesus’ baptism (Luke 3).
- Cross: a symbol of Christianity; theologically it stands for salvation, redemption and atonement.
