Dear Friends,
I am writing three days before Christmas and reflecting on the Advent journey: Walking the Road to Christmas.
For our journey:
- There was wonderful music, both congregational and the excellent choir cantata; Extravaganza was a wonderful display of the talent of this faith community.
- There was an incredible outpouring of God's love through the 100+ shoeboxes for the kids in our neighborhood schools
- There was a spirit of joy in worship and serving together as God's people
- and so much more...
There have opportunities of various kinds to provide each member an opportunity to prepare for the celebration of Nativity. And it has been my joy to share in them with you. My strong belief is that Christmas Eve and with Christmas Day falling on Sunday, this coming weekend will be a time of proclaiming: Joy to the World, the Lord is Come.
Ending Strong and With Faithfulness
Buechel Park is demonstrating once more a deep and sacrificial financial faithfulness as we conclude the year having actually given $408,760, which exceeds the full budget, $403,000. And to date we have expended $386,763 (a surplus of $21,997). With one week and some year-end expenditures to go, it is safe to announce gratitude to God and my gratitude to all who have responded with generosity to God through God's church at 2403 Hikes Lane. I feel such a sense of privilege and yes, pride, to share in this wonderful fellowship.
Pilgrimage to Israel
As I have shared, I will be embarking on January 26th on a two week pilgrimage to Israel, traveling with an ecumenical group of pastors from this region. This adventure is fully funded by a grant from the Cousins Foundation of Georgia, meant to be a time of prayer, reflection, dialogue and rest. I ask your prayers, even as I will pray for you. In my absence, you are in the able hands of the staff, deacons, and others.
Blessings,
Don
