I am writing 48 hours away from departing on pilgrimage to Israel. My clothes are stacked in the bedroom and reading for the trip stacked in my office. They advise "pack light" and "pack smart." Good advice for a trip...and the journey that is our lives. You will find more information on the website, including an option of following a blog of our daily excursions and reflections (please note the comments will be from all participants). As you may have learned by now, there will be 22 of us, all pastors, and from various denomination persuasions, plus our leaders. I offer my end of a covenant of prayer for you as I am away.
You are in good hands while I am away, God's and each others'. Those who will be preaching include Jon Self, staff led communion, and Rev. Susan Reed (Associate Minister, Broadway Baptist Church; Moderator of KBF). The Wednesday evening James Pathway will be taught by Mike Yelton and Brittany Krebs. Thanks to all.
Did you know?
A missional garden was approved at our last business meeting. It will be planted on our property, weeded by our volunteers, and harvested in support of our longstanding partner, South East Associated Ministries. SEAM will distribute the much needed vegetables to the neighbors Jesus calls us to serve. Thanks to Suzanne Shepherd for offering the vision and to the church family for an enthusiastic response.
The Missions and Church Life Team is in readiness to help our partner school, Goldsmith, with Blessings in a Backpack. The school system continues working out the details. You will hear more from Robin and her team as vital assistance arrives for families and how you can help.
The Pilgrimage of Lent
All of us are on a life journey that is a spiritual journey. The season of Lent calls to a pilgrimage of remembering and renewal as we focus our worship and our devotion to our Lord's pilgrimage to the cross, evidence of God's suffering and redemptive love. There will be opportunities for you to study and reflect, experience and share with others this journey that begins with Ash Wednesday Worship, February 22nd.
I am grateful for your support in this pilgrimage which takes me away and home again, changed and changing.
Shalom,
Don
