Epiphany
Epiphany is the celebration of Christ to the world, as represented by the Magi and by the appearance of Jesus to be baptized. Following Epiphany is a short season of ordinary time. The colors of Epiphany are white and gold. Symbols of this season are: Magi, three gifts given to the Christ child (gold – signifies royalty and kingship; frankincense – a kind of incense of high quality thus symbolizing divinity; myrrh – represents a suffering body or death, foreshadowing Jesus’ suffering before his death); Star of the East – followed by the Magi, a five-pointed star symboling divine guidance to the King; shell – containing a few drops of water symbolizing baptism, including the baptism of Jesus; water jar – represents the first miracle of Jesus, turning water into wine.
