Christmas
“…the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
The Christmas season, also known as Christmastide, begins on Christmas Day and extends through January 6. White is the color associated with this festival of Christ, suggesting gladness, light and joy. Symbols of the season include: Nativity or Creche – the crib in which the Christ Child was laid, a scandalous sign of the humble surroundings of his birth; the herald angel announcing to the shepherds; candlelight – Light represents righteousness and the presence of God and is symbolic of Christ appearing in the darkness of human sin; Christmas star – a royal and messianic symbol; poinsettias – a plant symbolic of the Star of Bethlehem, with bright red leaves that surround the actual flower which is small and yellow.
